> testing and experimentation
The
testing and experimentation of the energy producing
and consuming equipment in our home allowed us to
gain insight into the most productive way to operate
this equipment. It entailed measuring the energy,
temperature, and operating curves of every piece of
equipment and appliance in the house. For example,
we measured the efficiency of our solar panels and
the power that is needed to run our computer so that
we knew what to expect when these are actually being
used on the house. We also measured the amount of
energy it took to do a variety of tasks such as cooking
meals, washing a load of dishes, or drying a load
of towels.
Once
all variables on the house were known, we were able
to create a control process and optimize the energy
usage. |
